Because of the steep the house of Mary, I stayed on the bus and went down to the lower part of Ephesus, just by the souk, I am told Paul was imprisoned there (Antioch), but released by an earthquake, which are common in this area.
One of the early amphitheaters used by John.
The ruins of Ephesus.
At the souk I was entertained by a gold dealer who did his best to sell me a gold pendant, harem ring, earnings and bracelet for a mere 2000 euro, a little out of my range. Next door they sold real fake watches. When that didn't work he asked to be my boyfriend, over a cup of Turkish apple tea.. I did however buy a book on Ephesus which was really interesting. I then ran the gauntlet of hawkers in the market selling Turkish delight and everything else possible. 7 large packets Turkish delight for 10 euro.
A trip to the ladies was 1/2 euro. When Lynley came out of the souk, she laughed all the way to the bus after the gold dealer told him he was my boyfriend!
