Gallipoli peninsular 3 (22nd April 2015)

Our 2nd day on the peninsula we visited the British and French memorials (the Indians - Gherkas- were there also) ANZAC day is celebrated by the British  as  24th April, so the Peninsula is closed to everyone for the 24th and 25th April. Canakkele port was unavailable on the 22nd, 23rd as the President of Turkey had parked his yacht there and the ferries were stopped. SO we went by ferry across the Dardenelles from the main port some 30 km from Canakkele were our ship was moored. This happened for 3 days. The ferry ride became 50 mins on stead of 30.

Cape Hellers lighthouse- entrance to the Dardenelles. This is where the British were.  There is a huge memorial here to the Turks who had 250000+ casualties here.

The plate given to us by Fairy chimneys travel.  It has Atuturk's speech around the outside of the plate, and depicts the Mehmet carrying the wounded ANZAC solider; first drawn for the 50th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign in 1965.
This now is the symbol of the Gallipoli (Canakkele as the Turks call it) campaign.
