On top of these rocks sits monasteries in the most inaccessible places. Apparently they like the seclusion.
This one is one of the larger ones.
The way into the monastery.
The rocks on which they sit on.
These rocks are very hard and presumably the surrounding softer soil has been eroded off them.
It made for some interesting scenery, and stories.
The Greek religious life is also very interesting, as church and state are not separate in Greece.
The Greek alps in the distance.
The Greek alps in the distance.
One of very few Greek rivers.
The site of the 300 sparton war where 300 Spartans defeated a huge Persian army in 480 B. C. Ten years earlier the Athenians had repelled the Persians at Marathon. They left the Greeks alone after that.
And not far away the ANZAC troops repelled The Germans whilst the Greek army withdrew (for a day) at Bralos pass during WW2. Apparently they destroyed 15 tanks that day.
